Integration with third party or proprietary products can be very tricky. Interface code is usually internally developed and very complicated. It requires knowledge of analytical software, interfaces, compilers, linkers, calling conventions, etc. It's easy to let a bug slip through. But you only need to do it once. There is no point in learning the how's and the why's.
